ABOUT DR. MARCIA HARMELINK
Dr. Marcia Harmelink is an experienced education and learning professional focused on the animal health industry. Rocking H Veterinary Consulting was founded on the premise that education and training services could be offered to veterinary industry suppliers, veterinary students, and house officers, to help them succeed.
Growing up on a farm in rural Iowa shaped her interests, and after she earned her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, she worked as an associate in equine, mixed and small animal veterinary practice. She then joined a major pet nutrition company and enjoyed a long and successful career there, retiring in late 2017.
Marcia spent her first decade there working in the field, introducing new products, programs, and services to veterinarians and their health care teams. She also had an important role as a trainer for new salespeople and field veterinarians.
Her subsequent years there were spent in various corporate training and professional education roles. She started by managing sales training in the US, and ultimately drove the training strategy and delivery for the entire company globally. She gained valuable experience developing and delivering classroom training, and trained others to do the same.
Marcia helped to pioneer use of the virtual classroom as a training vehicle, expanding the reach and improving the convenience of training. She again trained others to do the same. She also had a pivotal role on the team that developed the first online product training in the corporation’s family of companies, and then later managed development of the 2.0 version, with multiple language translations.
Delivering engaging presentations is a special interest, and Marcia spent many years training others in public speaking. While doing so, she appreciated co-authoring a complete revision of the company public speaking course. She recently led development of a complete library or modern, interactive, dynamic presentations about nutritional management of pets with specific disorders, ensuring they are audience-focused and more likely to engage and result in changed behavior.
